Main Description

The Feeling 486 is a proven performance cruiser built by the Kirie Shipyard in 1997. The Kirie shipyard has long been celebrated for crafting high-quality, seaworthy vessels, with the Feeling series earning particular acclaim for blending speed, comfort, and durability in bluewater cruisers.

Constructed using traditional hand-laid fiberglass techniques with premium marine polyester resins, woven roving, and mat, her hull was specially treated to prevent osmosis—ensuring long-term structural integrity.

Designed by Gilles Vaton, the Feeling 486 excels as a capable passage-maker, thanks to her long waterline, efficient sail plan, and sleek lines. She delivers impressive speed and upwind performance with the inner staysail (solent), while the genoa shines on broad reaches—perfectly suiting her name, 'Long Reach'. Yet she's remarkably easy to handle, even single-handed, with a thoughtful hull form and secure cockpit that prioritize safety and comfort offshore.

Below decks, the interior is bright and well-ventilated, featuring a spacious C-shaped settee to port that comfortably seats eight or more. Opposite is an intuitive and highly functional galley.

Accommodation includes three primary cabins, two heads, and a versatile bunk cabin ideal for crew, children, or additional storage. She sleeps eight in comfort, with abundant stowage throughout. Acquired by her current owners in 2022, she has benefited from thoughtful upgrades to accommodate an island hopping lifestyle, including:

- A complete new Raymarine electronics suite, professionally installed ($10k+)

- AB Aluminum bottom dinghy & Yamaha 15HP outboard ($8k+)

- Hull stripped, epoxy barrier-coated & antifouled (2023), and freshly antifouled (2025) ($5k+)

- New shaft seal and cutlass bearing

- New propane system w/ Composite tank

- New House Bank Batteries (2024)

The owners have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the British, US, and Spanish Virgin Islands over the past few years aboard 'Long Reach'. With a recent land-based home purchase, they are offering their beloved floating home to her next fortunate owner, ready for new adventures and already located in some of the best cruising grounds in the world!

Owners Comments and Boat History

We first fell in love with the lines of this boat and how she is able to cut through the waves under sail. Her warmth and charm makes you feel welcome immediately. As we have spent time in the British, US, and Spanish Virgin Islands, the layout and size both inside and out has made for very comfortable sailing and living.

DAMAGE DISCLOSURE & REPAIRS

During the hurricanes of 2017 in the BVI, the vessel was hauled out at the VGYH, placed in a keel pit and strapped down to sand screws. The vessel was blown over to starboard and the boat stands damaged the hull in two places.  Each going through the outer and inner laminate, missing stringers & bulkheads. The damaged areas were quite small and were both easily repaired in the same manner as the hull had been manufactured.

The lead keel had some scrapes from the sides of the concrete pit when blown to starboard. (All professionally repaired now) The previous owner took it upon himself to go ahead and drop the keel to inspect & ensure the structural integrity of the keel stub and to make sure there was no structural damage to the keel itself. Though the keel stub did not show any signs of damage the owner went ahead and took the opportunity to reinforce the inside of the keel stub with a heavy layer of laminate. The re-installed the keel and had custom ¼” stainless steel washers made for the keel bolts. The vessel was surveyed at the time of purchase by the current owners with no structural issues reported.

The rig was completely lost and the pulpit bent beyond repair.  Some smaller items such as bent stanchions were repaired and the life lines were replaced. The previous owner was a metal fabricator by trade and did an amazing job on the new bow pulpit & anchor roller. He also bought a Bavaria of similar size and the rig salvaged and used as a replacement. This rig is a Selden, about 15 years newer than the original and similar size.

The vessel has passed a pre-purchase survey with no structural issues reported and we are confident she will again!
