Yekaterina is a 1989 Taswell 49 built by legendary Ta Shing and designed by Bill Dixon. The Taswell 49 combines a solid bluewater rig, cockpit, and hull design with an interior far better suited for living aboard than most modern production boats. On deck, she features a deep center cockpit with all sail controls accessible, including a single electric winch for easy furling of both the headsail and Leisurefurl main. The detachable inner forestay can be stowed for easy inshore tacking or rigged with a staysail or storm jib for offshore passages. End-boom sheeting for the main ensures simple sail handling, while wide side decks and tall lifelines provide safety moving about. Two large aft deck lockers supply ample storage for water toys and sailing gear.
Below deck, Ta Shing’s renowned craftsmanship abounds. The spacious salon table seats up to eight, and the well-appointed galley is designed for preparing full meals at sea. Equipment includes a 3-burner gas stove with oven, large counters, twin deep stainless sinks mounted on centerline, pressurized and manual freshwater, a top-loading freezer, and both top and front-loading refrigeration. The galley fridge door opens athwartships, a clever feature that prevents items from falling out under sail. A 12v DC refrigeration system has been recently added, though the original 220v Grunert holding plate system remains. Moving aft along the port side is a full-sized chart table rarely found on today’s production yachts. While Yekaterina currently carries only basic navigation electronics, the layout leaves a clean slate for upgrades.
Accommodations include a spacious aft cabin with a centerline queen berth, plentiful storage in lockers, drawers, and under seating, and an ensuite head with a separate shower. Forward of the salon is a crew cabin with over/under bunks, opening hatch and portlights, plus ample lockers and drawers. The forward head also features a separate shower and more storage, while the forward guest cabin provides a queen-sized V-berth, large hanging locker, and additional cabinetry. Notably, Yekaterina is powered by a newer Yanmar diesel (installed 2004), with sails and rigging renewed around 2017. With her owner unable to enjoy her recently, she is now offered for sale, ready for new adventures.
