Propeller shaft and sterntube general:
Each propeller shaft passes through the sterntube and is supported by a water lubricated rubber sleeve bearing at the aft side and at the fore side by a grease lubricated bronze bearing with a sealing gland.
Each of the shaft bearings will be in the skeg for ice protection.
Fixed pitch propeller:
The propellers are made of nickel-aluminium-bronze.
The propeller mounted inside a steel nozzle, to give protection from floating blocks of ice while increasing thrust as the ship pushes its way through the ice.
The propeller blades designed in accordance with the icebreaker class.
Propeller nozzle:
The propeller nozzle is strongly fixed in the aft ship construction. The inner ring of the nozzle is made of steel. The nozzle's cross section is for improved performance.
Steering /Rudder installation:
Two high performance type streamlined double plate rudders are supported in a step bearing welded to the sole piece. The rudder and the rudder stock are interconnected by a bolted horizontal flange coupling. This flange coupling allows easy removal of the rudder. The upper and lower bearings of the rudder stock are grease lubricated cast iron bushes. Rudder stops are fitted outside on the hull. A hand-operated device for grease lubrication is installed.
Rudder Blades:
Rudder blades (2 off each on nozzle) are to be single plate with a powered/servo hydraulic steering gear with manual emergency mode operable from the aft deck through an access port and connecting rod. Rudders controls (normal and emergency mode) panel and rudder angle indicator will be located on the wheelhouse.
2 pieces of halogen projectors, 400W; a “search light” projector placed above the wheelhouse. The command of projectors is from the control unit.
